If you’re looking for a more casual encounter, escape to the place where the air is thick with spices, laughter and music at our IKI bar. You’ll be surrounded by cocktails, craft beer and southeast asian street food.
A boutique hotel rich with history
Our haven, built within the walls of Tauranga’s historic post office
Dating back to the 1900’s, the architecture of Clarence Hotel is ensconced within European history. Today, our building delicately balances the historical elements of the past with contemporary, modern flair of the present.
The antique tiles that line our roof were commissioned all the way from Marseille, France. Combine this with centuries of New Zealand narrative and Clarence provides a unique synergy of both NZ and European history.
The story of the bee: preserving history for the future
Etched into each individual roof tile of our unique Tauranga hotel is a bee – the original emblem of the Guichard Carvin et Cie manufacturer. We’ve celebrated this symbol and used it as our logo for Clarence.
Our bee stands as our ethos – it represents our past, present and future and signifies a dedication to preserving our oasis for generations to come.
Sophisticated, award-winning flavours
A kitchen led by chef Ian Harrison, our lunch and dinner menus celebrate the seasons with local produce, alongside a substantial, international wine list. Ian’s award-winning menu has proudly made us Tauranga's best restaurant!
Merging the heritage of chef Ian’s English descent with owner Noel Cimadom’s Italian origin, the Bistro menu captures the aromas of Europe. We offer a modern taste of famed European cuisine balanced with the local flavours of New Zealand.
Your very own Oasis
An oasis in the heart of Tauranga, Clarence is a tranquil escape from the bustle of everyday life.
Nestled within the city centre and closeby to the famed Mount Maunganui waterfront, you’ll find a business hub with popular coffee spots, a local art gallery and more. Our boutique hotel offers both a weekend getaway for Kiwis and a carefree escape for international travellers.
