About Clarence Tauranga

Origin story

Italian and Kiwi couple Noel and Kim Cimadon brought Europe back with them when they returned to New Zealand. The result is The Clarence Hospitality Group, made up of Clarence Tauranga in the city centre, Alpino in the Mount and Picnicka at 38 Elizabeth. Kim put her decades of experience in fashion and design into the décor of each place. Meanwhile Noel brought his Italian passion for food and wine, along with the fine dining management experience he had gained throughout Europe.

Eclectically cool with modern and retro fused décor, Clarence Tauranga combines a bijou hotel, a bistro and a bar. For the full experience, a drink at Bar Centrale will get you in the mood before dinner at Clarence Bistro. At the end of play, one of the opulent rooms at Clarence Hotel is the perfect conclusion to your night.

A boutique hotel rich with history

If walls could talk

Built in 1905, Clarence’s historic post office home suits us perfectly as it combines European style with New Zealand history. We’ve brought a modern vibe to the building, while celebrating its gorgeous historic aspects.

The story of “The Bee”

Etched into each original roof tile is a bee – the original emblem of the Guichard Carvin et Cie, the Marseille manufacturer. We’ve embraced this symbol as our logo for Clarence. Our bee embodies our ethos – it represents our past, present, and future and signifies a dedication to preserving our masterpiece for generations to come. For Clarence Bistro, it also symbolises our role as custodians of the environment and our focus on sustainable practices.
